CHICAGO - Illinois State senior guard Tyler Brown earned more fan votes than first-round competitor Tydran Beaty of Benedict College, allowing Brown to advance to the "Elite 8" of the "State Farm Dark Horse Dunker Competition" Monday. Fans must now cast their daily votes to help Brown win his way into the contest's Final Four. Second round voting ends next Monday, March 4, at noon CST.

Fans are allowed to vote once per day by visiting the competition's official Facebook page: facebook.com/CollegeSlam. The winner of the entire contest will participate in the Denny's Slam Dunk Competition at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Atlanta at 6 p.m. CST, April 4, on ESPN.

Sixteen dunkers began the competition, and eight remain in the Facebook bracket, which is a five-week knockout competition. Brown won his first-round matchup by a two-percent margin, so every vote counts. While the Owensboro, Ky., native might be known first for his three-point shooting and defense, his dunking abilities are equally impressive. In his submission video, Brown bounces an alley-oop to himself and finishes with a 360-degree dunk.

For two years in a row, the State Farm Dark Horse Dunker moved on to win the entire Denny's Slam Dunk Competition. Last year, James Justice from Martin Methodist College won the 16-player Dark Horse Dunker bracket before winning in New Orleans, while Jacob Tucker of Illinois College was named the 2011 champion. Both dunkers are now members of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Brown is one of four seniors who will celebrate senior night this Wednesday, Feb. 27, against Missouri State on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. Upper bowl tickets are available for $5 by calling (309) 438-8000, by purchasing them on GoRedbirds.com or by visiting the Redbird Arena Ticket Office.
