NORMAL, Ill. - Bryant Allen scored a career-high and a season team-best 29 points, but the Illinois State men's basketball team fell to the No. 21 Creighton Bluejays, 87-78, Friday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

Doug McDermott led the Bluejays with 20 points, while three of his teammates also finished in double figures. Jackie Carmichael was the only other Redbird to reach double digits with 14. Illinois State shot 46.4 percent (32-69) from the field and 25 percent (8-32) from beyond the arc. Five of ISU's three-pointers were made by Allen. Creighton shot 57.1 percent (32-56) from the field and 55.6 percent (10-18) from three-point land.

The Bluejays opened the scoring in the first half with a three pointer from Jahenns Manigat. Carmichael responded immediately with a jumper of his own, before the two teams exchanged baskets. Tyler Brown scored five of the first nine points for Illinois State.

The basket exchanged continued, this time with three-pointers from the Redbird's Bryant Allen and Creighton's Austin Chatman. Allen continued his hot hand, adding a jumper at 9:49 to pull within one of the Bluejays. Carmichael followed with a block that turned into a fast-break layup for Anthony Cousin, giving Illinois State its fifth lead of the game.

The Bluejays regained the lead and pulled out to a six-point advantage, until John Wilkins, Allen and Nic Moore combined for six points in 50 seconds, tying the game up at 34, heading into the final media timeout of the half. Moore closed out the seven-point run, completing a three-point play that gave the Redbirds a 35-34 advantage.

Creighton took a 6-0 run and a five-point lead into the locker room, closing out the half with a 40-35 lead. The Bluejays shot 60.7 percent from the field (17-28) and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc (6-11). Illinois State shot 45.7 percent (16-35) from the field and just 12.5 percent from three-point land (2-16).

McDermott led Creighton with 11 first-half points, while Allen led the birds with nine, shooting 4-5 from the field. There were six ties and 12 lead changes throughout the first half.

Creighton opened the second frame, sinking two three-pointers, before a McDermott jumper pulled the Bluejays ahead nine, their biggest lead of the game. Allen responded with a three-pointer of his own, before Ethan Wragge sank his fourth three of the game, igniting an 11-0 run for the Bluejays, increasing their lead to 18 points. The Redbirds went 0-7 shooting during this run.

Allen ignited a 10-3 run, and Illinois State continued sinking three threes in the matter of 1:39 to pull within six points of the Bluejays. Allen scored 13 of his points down the home stretch in the last five minutes, helping the Redbirds to within two points of the lead, however, costly fouls and a double technical by Johnny Hill proved to be the difference as the Bluejays extended their lead to nine to close out the game.
