NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State starting pitcher Dan Savas was named a 2014 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American Third-Team selection, as announced Monday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

"Dan had a great year last year which has led to this honor," Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year Mark Kingston said. "He now must continue to push himself to make even more progress."

Savas made 15 starts for Illinois State in 2013, going 10-0 with a 1.79 ERA. The Rosemont, Ill., native tied for the team-lead with Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, and current Milwaukee Brewers prospect, Chris Razo, with five complete games. In 100.1 innings pitched, Savas struck out 98 batters and limited opponents to a .180 batting average-against, earning first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.

Illinois State enters the 2014 season following its best regular season in school history. The 2013 Redbirds won the Missouri Valley Conference title outright for the first time in school history, won a program-record 39 games and had a MVC record eight first-team all-Valley selections. Opening Day 2014 is slated for Friday, Feb. 14, at Murray State.
