Dec. 9, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State baseball team collected 37 total units of blood as part of its annual Redbird Baseball Blood Drive, which took place Friday at Redbird Arena.
“This was a very impactful day that we were happy to be a part of,” head coach Mark Kingston said. “Our players did a good job making this a success.”
Working in conjunction with the American Red Cross, members of the Illinois State baseball program helped facilitate the blood drive, which ran from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm Friday at Redbird Arena. The final tally consisted of 31 whole blood units, in addition to six double red cell units, bringing the total to 37 units of blood. The 2012 Redbird Baseball Blood Drive collected 36 total units of blood.
Illinois State enters the 2014 season following its best regular season in school history. The 2013 Redbirds won the Missouri Valley Conference title outright for the first time in school history, won a program-record 39 games and had a MVC record eight first-team all-Valley selections. Opening Day 2014 is slated for Friday, Feb. 14, at Murray State.
