NORMAL, Ill. - The annual Redbird baseball blood drive will take place Friday, Dec. 6, from 9:00 am until 3:00 p.m. at Redbird Arena. Appointments can be scheduled by calling Laurie Retzer at 309.438.3633 and walk-in participants are also welcome.

"This is an event that we are proud to be a part of," head coach Mark Kingston said. "Our team takes pride in giving back to our community, and we hope that this drive will receive great support."

The blood drive, which is coordinated by the Redbird baseball team in conjunction with the American Red Cross, collected 36 successful units of blood last winter, including units from 14 first-time donors. Members of the baseball roster and coaching staff will be assisting the event at Redbird Arena throughout the day.

Illinois State enters the 2014 season following its best regular season in school history. The 2013 Redbirds won the Missouri Valley Conference title outright for the first time in school history, won a program-record 39 games and had a MVC record eight first-team all-Valley selections. Opening Day 2014 is slated for Friday, Feb. 14, at Murray State.
