MVC Champion Redbirds Honored With Championship Rings
Oct. 19, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - The Missouri Valley Conference Champion Illinois State baseball team was presented their championship rings Saturday in an on field ceremony during the Illinois State football game at Hancock Stadium.
“Today is a great day for our team,” head coach Mark Kingston said. “They put so much in to last season, and it’s great to see them receive their rings. We thank all who helped make this happen, and share this accomplishment with all Redbird fans and alumni.”
The 2013 Illinois State Redbirds won a program-record 39 games en route to the first outright MVC Championship in school history. The memorable season included a school-record 12-game winning streak, saw Illinois State set a Valley record with eight First-Team All-MVC selections and earned Kingston his second MVC Coach of the Year honor. Chris Razo became the first Illinois State player to earn MVC Pitcher of the Year accolades and Brett Kay was named the league’s defensive most valuable player. Additionally, four Redbirds were drafted in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last June.
Illinois State will release its 2014 schedule later this fall, with opening day slated for February.
