Baseball Holds Annual Scout Day at Duffy Bass Field

Oct. 1, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. – The defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion Illinois State baseball team hosted its annual Scout Day on a sunny afternoon Tuesday at Duffy Bass Field. Dozens of Major League Baseball scouts attended the showcase as the Redbirds worked out in their home ballpark.

“I thought today was a positive day for our players,” head coach Mark Kingston said. “It was a great opportunity for them to showcase their improvement. I think they did it well, and it will pay dividends for them moving forward.”

The session began a 60-yard dash, where each Redbird was given two opportunities to showcase their speed. Batting practice led into infield and outfield drills, before a scrimmage culminated the event.

Illinois State finished the 2013 season with a program-record 39 wins, winning the Missouri Valley Conference title outright for the first time in school history. Following the record-breaking season, four Redbirds were drafted in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Chad Hinshaw (15th round, Los Angeles Angels), Brett Kay (20th round, San Francisco Giants), Chris Razo (24th round, Milwaukee Brewers) and Eric Aguilera (34th, Los Angeles Angels) recently completed their first professional seasons.

The Redbird baseball team concludes fall practices this week and the complete 2014 schedule will be released later this fall. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
