Learnard Honored With Fairchild Endowed Scholarship
July 23, 2013
NORMAL, Ill.- For the third consecutive season, Illinois State pitcher JD Learnard has been named the recipient of the Raymond W. Fairchild Endowed Scholarship, as announced Tuesday by the Illinois State head baseball coach Mark Kingston.
"JD has been a strong member of our team for quite some time," Kingston said. "He takes great pride in being successful on and off the field. Going into his senior year, I know he will do everything he can to finish his career here strong."
Learnard is a five-year member of the Illinois State baseball program and appeared in 10 games in 2013. The right-hander went 3-2 with a 4.09 ERA, completing 22.0 innings. The Fairmount, Ill., native missed all of 2012 with labrum surgery, but shined a sophomore in 2011, going 8-2 in 14 starts, including a perfect 5-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Fairchild Endowment is a scholarship awarded each academic year to one Redbird baseball player who excels in the classroom and on the field of play. It is named after former Illinois State President Raymond W. Fairchild, who guided the university from 1933 to 1954.
