NORMAL, Ill. - Current Redbirds Eric Aguilera, Zac Johnson and Jeremy Rhoades have been selected to all-star teams in their respective summer collegiate baseball leagues. All three received significant playing time for the 2012 Illinois State baseball team that finished 33-19.
Aguilera is currently batting .376/.421/.541 with three home runs, 25 RBI and 19 doubles for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League. The senior outfielder carries a 16-game hitting streak and a 27-game on-base streak into action Wednesday night. He will play for the South Division in the July 24 Northwoods League All-Star Game in Madison, Wis.
Johnson and Rhoades both currently play for the Oneonta Outlaws of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). Johnson entered play Wednesday batting .314/.418/.405 with 19 RBI, five doubles and three triples. Rhoades has made 13 relief appearances, maintaining a 2.70 ERA with two saves. He has struck out 35 batters in 23.1 innings, while allowing only six walks. Johnson will represent Team Ebright, while Rhoades will pitch for Team Griffin, in the July 24 PGCBL All-Star Game in Amsterdam, N.Y.
