NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State pitcher Dan Savas and former outfielder Eric Aguilera have been named 2013 All-Midwest Region First-Team selections, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association Monday. Savas will return to the Redbird rotation in 2014 and Aguilera recently signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization.

“Dan and Eric had great years for us,” Illinois State head coach Mark Kingston said. “This recognition is much deserved and we are proud they are receiving it.”

After missing the 2011 season with an injury, Savas went 10-0 with a 1.79 ERA for the Redbirds in 2013. He made 15 starts, tallied five complete games and fired a pair of shutouts. Savas struck out 98 batters and allowed only one home run in 100.1 innings of work, limiting opponents to a .180 batting average.

Aguilera was selected in the 34th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Cary, Ill., native led the Redbirds in nearly every offensive category in 2013, batting .346/.408/.524 with seven home runs, 58 RBI, 14 doubles and three triples. He started all 58 games for the Redbirds in right field and was named to his second-consecutive All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team. After an injury sidelined most of his 2011 season, Aguilera rehabbed back to become one of the premiere players in the Valley in 2012. He batted .330 with seven home runs and led the MVC in conference batting average, hitting .407 in Valley games. Aguilera has been assigned to the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League.
