May 16, 2013

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Redbird senior outfielder Eric Aguilera was named a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced Thursday by the Valley offices in St. Louis, Mo.

Aguilera paced the Redbirds to a .636/.714/.818 weekend, as Illinois State won a Missouri Valley Conference series versus Evansville. The Cary, Ill., native tallied two doubles, collected seven RBI, scored five runs and played error-free defense in right field. His walk-off RBI single on Sunday capped a 14-4 run-rule victory over Evansville, securing a first-place standing for the Redbirds with just three Valley games to go. Aguilera holds a cumulative grade-point average of 3.27 in management.

Now in its 14th season, the MVC Scholar-Athlete program honors student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom as well as the field of play. To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
