Accardo to appear on an MLB roster for the eighth-consecutive season.

Former Illinois State pitcher Jeremy Accardo's Triple-A Columbus Clippers contract was purchased by the Cleveland Indians Monday afternoon. The Indians released reliever Dan Wheeler and called up Accardo to fill the bullpen vacancy.
Accardo has spent the entire season with Columbus, after receiving a non-roster invitation to Cleveland spring training earlier this year. While pitching for the Clippers, Accardo posted a 2.76 ERA in 13 relief outings (16 1/3 innings). He was also 4-for-4 in save opportunities.
The 30-year-old, right-handed closer has appeared in 235 Major League Baseball games with Baltimore, Toronto and San Francisco since 2005. Accardo has a 10-20 career record in 235 appearances with 38 saves and a 4.22 ERA. This marks his eighth consecutive season on an MLB roster.
Last year, the former Redbird pitched in 31 games for the Orioles and spent time with their Triple-A Norfolk affiliate. Accardo went 3-3 for Baltimore through 37 2/3 innings with 5.73 ERA. He was also 1-1 with Norfolk, with a 2.16 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.
While at Illinois State, Accardo amassed a 5-4 record with 12 saves in 33 appearances on the mound in two seasons (2001-03). He signed with the San Francisco Giants organization following his junior season at ISU as an undrafted free agent and was later called up to the major leagues by the organization in May of 2005.
