Redbird Baseball Hosts Miracle League Day

May 7, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. – During the last weekend series of the regular season, Illinois State baseball will welcome The Miracle League of Central Illinois to Duffy Bass Field on Saturday, May 12, when the Redbirds play Western Illinois on Miracle League Day. The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Prior to the start of the ISU game, The Miracle League will hold its own game on Duffy Bass Field. Redbird players will accompany Miracle League players, as their “buddies,” during their game scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

“The Miracle League of Central Illinois is ecstatic about its involvement with ISU baseball. Any time we get the chance to spread the word about this great organization, we are more than delighted,” said CEO and Founder Bill Wright. “Our young players are extremely thrilled to be able to play with these great ball players. We look forward to continued exposure about our organization and hope to see many fans out at the game.”

Assistant Coach Bill Mohl knows ISU’s players love to give back to the community.

“Our team is very excited to partner with The Miracle League this weekend,” explained Mohl. “Giving back to children is something our guys truly embrace. It should be a great day for all parties involved.”

The Miracle League of Central Illinois provides physically and mentally challenged children a safe and spirited program in which they can play on a baseball field just like other kids. Miracle League baseball offers a unique and memorable opportunity physically and mentally challenged children would not otherwise have. Every player has the opportunity to run the bases, score and win at every Miracle League game.
