NORMAL, Ill.- Kyle Stanton and Chris Razo were awarded Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the Valley offices in St. Louis, Mo. The honor is the second this season for Razo and the first for Stanton.

"We are very excited for Chris and Kyle to win these awards," head coach Mark Kingston said. "They are performing very well, and this recognition is much deserved."

Razo earned MVC Pitcher of the Week honors after firing his fourth complete-game of the season Friday night at Duffy Bass Field, as Illinois State defeated Creighton 9-2. The senior right-hander from Chillicothe, Ill., limited the Bluejays to two runs, one earned, on just two hits with eight strike outs. The complete-game gem, which was his third complete-game versus Valley opponents this season, improved Razo to 6-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.21. With defeats this season over Missouri State and Indiana State, Razo has emerged as one of the premiere starting pitchers in the Valley.

Stanton, who was named the MVC Player of the Week, batted .550/.545/.750 as Illinois State went 4-1 last week. The O'Fallon, Ill., product tallied a five-RBI game versus Illinois Wesleyan and had a stretch of six-consecutive games with a double extended into the weekend series versus Creighton. Stanton tallied 11 total RBI, clubbed four doubles and drew one walk, scoring four runs as Illinois State capped a program-record 12-game winning streak.

Illinois State returns to action Friday night for game one of a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series versus Evansville.
