May 5, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - For the second time in his career, Illinois State senior third baseman Ryan Court was named to Capital One Academic All-District V First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. Court was one of three Missouri Valley Conference players on the District V team.
"Ryan continues to be recognized for his excellence on and off the field," Redbird baseball coach Mark Kingston said. "He is a great representative of what we believe in here at Illinois State."
Court, a redshirt senior, leads the Redbirds with 14 doubles and three triples this season, plus he ranks second on the team with a .467 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage. Court also maintains the third-highest batting average, at .317. The Sleepy Hollow, Ill., native has started 145-consecutive games, which is the most among active Illinois State players.
Court, who also received Academic All-District V First-Team honors as a sophomore, holds a 3.77 cumulative grade point average in business teacher education. The Redbird third baseman has earned a 3.50 grade-point average (GPA) or higher and landed on the AFNI Honor Roll in all of his semesters at Illinois State. Court posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in two semesters.
Earlier this season, Court was named a candidate for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for his notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition. The redshirt senior is completing his undergraduate coursework this semester, and is scheduled to student teach at Glenbrook South High School this fall.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
