April 27, 2009
NORMAL, Ill. - Highlighted by the Illinois State Baseball Stadium dedication Saturday, this coming weekend looks to be full of activity at Duffy Bass Field as the Redbirds host Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton in a three-game series.
In a pregame ceremony, the new ISU Baseball Stadium will be officially dedicated and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get a free commemorative pennant. First pitch for Saturday's game against the Bluejays is 2 p.m.
The night before, on Friday, the Redbirds and the Bluejays will begin play at 6 p.m. That game is also Reggie's Kids Day at the ballpark. There will be a pregame Papa John's Pizza Party and autograph session in the rightfield picnic area with the Illinois State men's and women's basketball teams. The pizza party is free and open to members of the Reggie's Kids Club, the Denny's Jr. Redbird Winners and the Buffalo Wild Wings Honorary Ball Kids.
Also on Friday night, the "Zoo Lady" will be on hand to provide free face painting. There will also be an inflatable bouncer, compliments of Fun on the Run, along with a Reggie Photo Booth where guests will receive a personal photo with their favorite mascot, Reggie Redbird.
Prior to Sunday's game, which is ISU Faculty and Staff Day, there will be a pregame barbeque from noon to 1 p.m. for the faculty and staff of Illinois State University in the rightfield picnic area. The free barbeque will include hot dogs, potato chips, soft drinks and cookies, compliments of Denny's Doughnuts and Bakery.
Sunday is also "Dog Day" at Duffy Bass Field. Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue (C.I.S.A.R.) will be at the game with its mobile pet adoption center onsite prior to the game from noon to 1 p.m., and will have dogs on hand that are available for adoption.
