Sorkin Earns MVC Pitcher of the Week Award

April 22, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior right-hander Brad Sorkin was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the Valley offices Monday afternoon. Sorkin fired a complete-game shutout Sunday as Illinois State completed a three-game sweep of Indiana State.

Sorkin needed just 96 pitches to defeat the Sycamores. He scattered four hits, walked one, struck out one and induced a game-ending double play with the tying run at home plate in the ninth inning. The win was the 17th of Sorkin's four-year ISU career, and improved the right-hander to 5-4 this season.

Sorkin is the second Redbird to earn MVC Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Fellow senior Chris Razo took home the award earlier this season.

The Redbirds return to action Tuesday night with a non-conference tilt at Purdue. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. CT from West Lafayette, Ind.
