WICHITA, Kan. - The Illinois State Redbirds hit the road for the first time in Missouri Valley Conference play and visit the Wichita State Shockers for a three-game series starting Friday at 7 p.m. at Eck Stadium. The teams will play Saturday at 2 p.m. and conclude the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Poor weather conditions limited the Redbirds' home field advantage to begin Valley play, but Illinois State (12-7, 3-1 MVC) still won three of four conference games at Duffy Bass Field against Evansville and Indiana State. The Redbirds were forced to cancel the final two games of last weekend's series with the Sycamores due to the same storm system that washed out the final two games of Wichita State's series at Bradley.

The Redbirds will face a stern road test against the Shockers - the Valley's perennial leader. Wichita State enters the weekend with a 15-10 record and a 12-5 mark at home. Wichita State won its only Valley game, a 5-2 decision last Friday at Bradley.

Illinois State's Ryan Camp is expected to face Wichita State's Tim Kelley in Friday's opening game. Redbird starter Ryan Copeland will start against Charlie Lowell Saturday and ISU's Corey Maines is expected to throw Sunday against Shocker freshman Jordan Cooper.

Both teams were successful in mid-week action this week. Illinois State was rained out against in-state rival Illinois Tuesday, before topping Iowa, 9-6, Wednesday. The Shockers topped Nebraska at Eck Stadium Tuesday and cruised to a win over Kansas Wesleyan Wednesday.
