WICHITA, KAN. - The Illinois State Redbirds open Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game series at Wichita State, March 29-30. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m. Saturday will feature two, nine-inning games, with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Redbirds (11-11, 0-0 MVC) return to action following a 2-2 record last week. Illinois State won its lone mid-week game, 5-0, at SIUE, before dropping two-of-three to Eastern Illinois at Duffy Bass Field over the weekend. Illinois State has an all-time MVC record of 314-414, including a 35-20 mark under fourth-year head coach Mark Kingston.

Wichita State has won two games in a row, sweeping Air Force earlier this week. The Shockers are led by veteran head coach Gene Stephenson. Stephenson is in his 36th season at the helm of the Shockers program had guided WSU to a NCAA National Championship in 1989.

ISU is averaging nearly six runs-per-game and boasts a team slash-line of .280/.366/.401. The Redbirds own a team ERA of 3.90 and have struck out 159 batters in 189.0 innings of work.

Wichita State averages 5.3 runs-per-game and hits .287/.364/.382 collectively. Shockers pitchers have tallied a 4.09 ERA.
