Following a home-opening win against SIU Edwardsville Wednesday evening, the Redbird baseball team stays at home for a three-game weekend series versus Austin Peay at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Ill. Illinois State (11-5) will play the Governors (8-7) Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Fans who purchase a ticket to Saturday or Sunday's game will receive free admission to ISU's home softball games against Bradley. Also, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases at Duffy Bass Field following Sunday's series finale.

The Redbirds are playing Austin Peay for the second time this season, after Illinois State lost to the Governors, 5-4, Feb. 26, at the Austin Peay Classic in Clarksville, Tenn. Zach Amrein led the ISU offense against the Governors, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Corey Maines pitched 6.1 innings, striking out five, while allowing three runs on five hits. Cam Verbeke suffered the loss, giving up two runs in two innings.

Austin Peay is coming off a 5-3 loss at Tennessee Wednesday. The Governors are led offensively by Jordan Hankins, who is hitting .509 with 15 RBI, 11 runs and a team-high six doubles.

"Austin Peay will present a good challenge for us," Redbird head coach Mark Kingston said. "They are a southern team that can hit the ball well, they play tough defense, and they can really run. Plus, they're starting three left-handed pitchers who all have good numbers."

The Governors will throw three left-handers, Jack Snodgrass (Friday), Jeremy Dobbs (Saturday) and Zach Toney (Sunday). ISU will counter with right-handers Maines (Friday), Dan Savas (Saturday) and Brad Sorkin (Sunday).

The Redbirds trail the all-time series to Austin Peay, 14-8.
