Illinois State concludes its five-game Florida trip with two at Miami.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - After winning two-of-three games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla., over the weekend, the Illinois State Redbirds (5-7, 0-0 MVC) open midweek play with a two-game set at No. 29 Miami (13-4, 1-2 ACC) March 12-13 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla. Both games start at 5:00 p.m. CST.
The Redbirds defeated LIU Brooklyn, 6-3, Friday, fell to Miami University, 4-2, Saturday and bounced back to defeat Fairfield, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven. Illinois State committed just one error over the weekend and allowed only two runs in 14 innings of relief pitching. The Redbirds were paced offensively by Chad Hinshaw, who hit .444/.500/.556 with three RBI and one stolen base. The senior played error-free defense and collected an outfield assist, throwing out a runner at home plate in Sunday's win over Fairfield.
No. 29 Miami concludes a seven-game home stand this week . The Hurricanes, which are 11-2 at home this season, dropped two-of-three games to Duke to open Atlantic Coast Conference play last weekend. The Hurricanes are 5-0 in midweek games in 2013.
The Redbirds are guided by fourth-year head coach Mark Kingston, who was an assistant coach on the 2001 Miami Hurricanes National Championship team. Kingston spent two seasons (2000 and 2001) at Miami before accepting an assistant position at Tulane University. The Hurricanes went 94-31-1 (.752) when Kingston was an assistant.
The Hurricanes are managed by veteran skipper Jim Morris, who is in his 34th season as a head coach. Morris is 1,496-631-4 (.702) overall and 863-323-3 (.710) in 20 seasons at Miami. He led the Hurricanes to NCAA National Championships in 1999 and 2001.
Eric Aguilera leads the Illinois State offense in batting average (.362), slugging percentage (.511) and RBI (13). Kyle Stanton shares the team-lead in doubles (4) with Aguilera. Brett Kay posts the highest on-base percentage (.446) and Chad Hinshaw is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. Closer Chris Razo has not allowed an earned run in 7.1 innings and has struck out 10. The right-hander is a perfect 4-for-4 in saves.
Brad Fieger leads Miami in hits (21) and batting average (.350). Alex Hernandez has the highest on-base percentage (.446). David Thompson has tallied the most home runs (2), RBI (18) and doubles (7). Dale Carey has stolen 4-of-5 attempted bases. Closer AJ Salcines was named a preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association.
On Tuesday, Illinois State throws senior right-hander Brad Sorkin (2-1, 3.50 ERA) versus Miami senior-righty Eric Whaley (0-0, 7.71 ERA). Right-hander JD Learnard (0-0, 3.00 ERA) makes his first start in 2013 on Wednesday and counters Miami left-hander Bryan Radziewski (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
