NORMAL, Ill. – 
Dan Savas fired eight scoreless innings as Illinois State (31-16, 11-3 MVC) blanked Creighton (24-13, 8-6 MVC), 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Duffy Bass Field. The victory is a program-record 12th-consecutive victory for the Redbirds and secured a series-victory over the Bluejays.

Savas (7-0), lasted eight innings for the third time this season, allowing no runs on three hits with eight strike outs. David Suarez worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the win.

Creighton starter Nick Musec (1-5), was chased from the game in a two-run Redbird fifth inning. He allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits with four walks and no strike outs over 4.1 innings.

Kyle Stanton clubbed three hits, including a double for the sixth-consecutive game, Chad Hinshaw had three RBI and Paul DeJong drew three walks as Illinois State out-hit the Bluejays, 9-3.


 

 

Hinshaw’s RBI-triple in the third inning plated Stewart to give the Redbirds an early 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Hinshaw drew a bases-loaded walk and Zac Johnson added a run-scoring fielders choice to give the Redbirds 3-0 lead after five innings.

The first three Redbirds reached to open the sixth inning. A two-run single from Stewart broke the game open and was following by a run-scoring fielders choice by Hinshaw to cap the scoring.

The Redbirds have now won 19 of their last 21 games, improved to 17-4 at Duffy Bass Field and have won four-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference series’.

The three-game set concludes Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch versus the Bluejays. Admission and parking remain free at Duffy Bass Field.
