NORMAL, Ill. - Chad Hinshaw drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Illinois State baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Southern Illinois at Duffy Bass Field, Friday evening. With his game-winning two-RBI single, Hinshaw extended his on-base streak to 20 games ending the day 1-for-4.

The Redbirds played from behind until the eighth inning when Zac Johnson led off with an infield single. Eric Aguilera followed with another infield hit, before Kevin Tokarski put ISU on the board with a single to right field, driving in Johnson. Then, Hinshaw singled up the middle to drive home Augilera and Tokarski to seal the deal for Illinois State.

On the mound, ISU starter Chris Razo went seven innings, giving up three hits and one unearned run, while striking out five in his no decision appearance. Justin Hauer (3-1) took the hill in the top of the eighth, retiring the side as he was credited with the win. Kenny Long threw the ninth, picking up his eighth save of the season.

Aguilera led the Redbird bats with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, touching home once.

For Southern Illinois, Cody Forsythe (3-3) went eight innings and allowed five Redbird hits and three runs. He had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning, until Aguilera became ISU's first base runner of the day with a single.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at Duffy Bass Field for game two of this three-game set. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
