WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Illinois State first baseman Kyle Stanton went 2-for-3 with a game-high three RBI to lead the Redbirds to their 10th-straight victory in a 10-6 win against Iowa Sunday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.

Sunday's win marked the first streak of 10 games without a loss for ISU since the 1984 Redbirds amassed a stretch of 10 wins and one tie without a loss. ISU now needs just one more victory to match the 11-game winning streak established by the 1976 team.

Illinois State improved to 10-3 after securing its third victory at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Sunday. Iowa fell to 3-8. Redbird starting pitcher Dylan Craig (2-0) earned the win, while Iowa's Tim Fangman (1-3) suffered the loss. Craig pitched 5.1 innings, and allowed six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

"This was a good win for our team," Redbird head coach Mark Kingston said. "It went back-and-forth, and once again, we fell behind early. But we stayed with the process and kept with our game plan, and we capitalized on our opportunities."

Illinois State fell behind, 4-0, after Iowa scored one run in the first inning and three in the third. But the Redbirds responded, first with one run in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by Stanton to drive in Matt Mirabal. Then, ISU capitalized on three Iowa errors that resulted in three runs.

The Redbirds took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning with four more runs. Stanton drove in one with a single, and two more runs scored on an Iowa throwing error. Zac Johnson singled-home another run to increase ISU's advantage to 8-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Hawkeyes responded with two runs. However, Illinois State countered with two more runs in the seventh inning, both on Iowa wild pitches. ISU's Johnny Lieske, Matt Schmitt and Justin Hauer teamed up to pitch the final 3.2 shutout innings to secure the victory.

The Redbirds ride their 10-game winning streak into Tuesday's game at No. 14 Miami. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT in Coral Gables, Fla. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
