AUBURNDALE, Fla. - A two-run home run by Zach Amrein in the top of the first gave Illinois State a quick start on offense and Ryan Camp scattered four hits over seven innings in a 7-3 win over Western Michigan in the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park Monday.

Amrein's shot to right off Casey Hall's first pitch with two outs in the first inning sparked another double-digit hit effort (12) for Illinois State (4-2) and Camp was dominant at times while striking out six in his second start of the season. The win marks the fourth in a row for the Redbirds and third in two days.

Camp faced the minimum through three innings, working around a soft single in the first with an inning-ending double play. He induced another double play ball after dropped third strike allowed Kyle Galbraith to reach base in the bottom of the fourth. Camp struggled with command in the fifth inning as the sophomore right-hander hit two batters and allowed Western Michigan's first run on a wild pitch. The Broncos scored two in the inning, but Camp rebounded to throw a scoreless frame in the sixth and struck out the side in the seventh.

Illinois State never trailed after Amrein's first-inning home run. The leadoff hitter for Illinois State reached in each of the first six innings and the Redbirds were able to push across three of those batters for runs. Ryan Court led off the fourth inning with a single and was later driven in by Evan Kohli.

In the fifth inning, Chad Hinshaw drew a leadoff walk, stole two bases, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Amrein. Kohli led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to right field, part of a 2-for-4 effort by the ISU designated hitter. Kevin Tokarski completed the Redbirds' scoring with a two-RBI single in the top of the eighth. Tokarski has a hit and an extra-base hit in each of the Redbirds' six games.

Brad Sorkin struck out two in two innings of relief while closing out the win for Illinois State.

The Redbirds travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a tournament at Vanderbilt next weekend (March 5-7) where they will match-up with Indiana, Kent State and the Commodores - all 2009 NCAA regional qualifiers.
