Position: Volunteer Assistant Coach

After a successful stint in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, Matt Fowles has joined the Redbird baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Fowles posted a 3.92 ERA in two seasons with the Yakima Bears (A) and Lancaster Jethawks (Advanced A) after being drafted in 2005 out of Illinois State. Fowles will assist with the Redbird pitching staff in his return to Bloomington.

Fowles made 18 appearances, including 10 starts, for Illinois State in 2005 after transferring from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He pitched for the Blazers his junior year after competing for two seasons at St. Louis Community College-Meramec. At Meramec, Fowles was the Region 16 Co-Pitcher of the year and earned all region honors.

Born in Denver, Colo., Fowles graduated from Fulton High School in Fulton, Mo.
