NORMAL, Ill. - After winning its second-straight Missouri Valley Conference title, three Illinois State women's cross country runners were named to the conference's scholar-athlete team, following competition last weekend at the Illinois State Cross Country Course at the Weibring Golf Club, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

All-Valley performers Rachael Brewer, Elise Sigg and Kim Christensen earned the honor by placing in the top-20 at the conference championships, while holding a high academic standard of a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

Brewer paced the women's team to its title, finishing second to Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton of Wichita State with a time of 17:31. Sigg was right on Brewer's heels, finishing third with a time of 17:34, while teammate Christensen ran-down the seventh spot with a time of 17:53. Brewer holds a 3.2 GPA as a marketing major, while Christensen has a 3.5 in health education.

In addition to her scholar-athlete award, Sigg also earned the MVC Elite-18 Award, which is bestowed to the athlete of the highest academic and athletic standards at the conclusion of the conference meet. She had the highest GPA (4.0 in nursing), while placing the highest among all the student-athletes of her same caliber academically.
