May 20, 2013

NEW ORLEANS - For the second-straight week, the Illinois State women's track & field team is No. 25 on the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Computer Rankings with 74.89 points, as announced Monday.

ISU enters the 2013 NCAA West Region Preliminary Round with the same ranking earned a week ago, after solid performances at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where four women earned individual titles, and the team collected 15 All-valley honors. Five Redbirds rank nationally on the women's side.

Sade Sealy is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the 400-meter-dash with a time of 52.01, which she accomplished at the Valley Championships (May 10), running to her eighth-straight title in the event. Her time of 52.01 was a personal-best time, as well as a school record, conference record and conference meet record. For the record-setting mark, Sealy earned Most Outstanding Track Athlete on the women's side.

In the steeplechase, Elise Sigg, Kristen Zillmer and Kelly McShea are ranked in the top 35. Sigg is ranked 20th in the event with a time of 10:12.64, while Zillmer comes in at No. 27, after running a time of 10:14.83, and McShea is 35th in the nation with a time of 10:16.95. The trio dominated the steeplechase at the conference championships (May 10), as Sigg, Zillmer, and McShea finished the race in first through third place, respectively.

Continuing her decorated Redbird career, Brittany Smith is nationally ranked in three events, including two top-10 rankings. Smith ranks sixth in the shot put with a throw of 57-00.75 (17.38m), which is a season-best. In the hammer throw, Smith is also ranked sixth with a season-best mark of 218-10 (66.71m) and comes in at No. 26 in the discus with a throw of 176-06 (53.80m). At the conference meet, Smith earned All-Valley honors in each of the three events and took home her first outdoor conference title in the hammer throw.

The women's team returns to action this week at Austin, Texas, for the NCAA West Region Preliminary Round, May 23-25.
