NORMAL, Ill. - Nine members of the Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams secured a spot for the 2013 NCAA West Region Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas May 23-25 as announced Thursday. This is the second-straight year Texas has hosted the preliminary round at Mike A. Myers Stadium and the third in four years.

Forty-eight athletes in each individual event qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Round, while just 24 teams do so in the relays. There are two regions, the West and the East, and only 12 athletes and relay teams will advance from each region to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 5-8, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The No. 25-ranked women's team will see seven athletes competing in six events at the preliminary round, including the 4X400-meter relay. The men's side will see just two competing in the hammer throw and javelin.
