ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Valley Conference named senior thrower Tim Glover co-Field Athlete of the Week for his Drake Relays Championships this past weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
In just his third meet of the outdoor season, Glover threw himself to a Drake Relays title for the first time in his career, beating a field of 26 of the top throwers in the event. The two-time defending NCAA champion was the heavy favorite, after winning the NCAA title at Drake Stadium a year ago. Glover opened the competition with a throw of 233-08 (71.24m), before bettering that mark on his second attempt to 239-04 (72.94m). That mark stood as his best on the day, winning the Drake Relays title by 10 feet. En route to his title, Glover had two throws over 236-00 (72.00m), and still holds the No. 2 mark in the college ranks this season.
This is Glover's third honor this season, and second-consecutive, as he was previously named Valley Field Athlete of the Week March 27 and April 23. He has now earned the honor each time he has thrown this season.
Glover will take the weekend off to prepare for the MVC Championships next weekend; however, the rest of the men's and women's teams will travel to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin Open May 3-4, serving as one final tune-up for the conference championships the following weekend.
