Glover Named Valley Field Athlete of the Week
April 10, 2012
ST. LOUIS - After making his 2012 season debut at Illinois State's lone home meet of the season this past weekend, Redbird junior Tim Glover was named the Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday by the league office.
The defending NCAA national champion in the javelin, Glover opened his season of competition in front of a home-town crowd at the Redbird Track & Field Complex where he won the javelin throw with a mark of 242-10. En route to winning the event, Glover threw 50 feet further than runner-up and teammate Brian Pflederer (193-00), claiming the No. 1 spot in the Missouri Valley Conference by 18 feet. As it stands now, he ranks sixth on the NCAA Division I collegiate best list.
The Normal, Ill., native now owns the top-three throws in Illinois State history, bumping former school record holder and father, Robert Glover, out of the top three. Glover's toss of 242-10 also broke the Redbird Track & Field Complex facility record (233-11) that he set back in 2010 at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Illinois State.
Glover and the rest of the Redbirds return to action this weekend, as they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to take part in the Sea Ray Relays.
