NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men’s and women’s track & field teams will wrap-up the home slate of the 2012-13 indoor track & field season Saturday, at the Redbird Invite in Horton Field House.

The Redbirds will face off against Kent State and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in a non-scored triangular meet. Competition beings at 10 a.m., with the men’s weight throw and the women’s long jump. Running events begin at 11 a.m., with the women’s 60-meter hurdle prelims.

Both teams are coming off a much improved weekend at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational (Jan. 18-19), where a lot of career-marks were achieved. Sophomore pole vaulters Thomas Jean and Kevin Fisch both reached new heights, clearing 15-09.00 (4.80m) and 15-05.00 (4.70m), respectively. Junior Coty Kramer cracked into the top-five in the 400-meter dash, turning in a season best time of 50.08 for fourth place.

Senior Brittany Smith continues to dominate the throws for the Redbirds, as she holds the No. 2 ranking in the nation in the weight throw with a mark of 70-07.00 (21.51m). She also holds the No. 9 mark in the nation in the shot put, with a toss of 54-06.00 (16.61m). Voted Athlete of the Week the last two-consecutive weeks by the Valley, Smith ranks second in both events in the MVC to Indiana State’s Felisha Johnson.

On the track, the women will feature some of the top sprinters and distance runners in the Valley. Six-time conference campion Sade Sealy will run her second 400-meter race of the season, while teammate Printassia Johnson will take on both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Both are coming off first-place finishes last weekend, as Johnson posted two in the 60- and 200-meters, while Sealy did so in the 600-meter run.

The women’s mile will also be exciting, as it features three Redbirds who have ran five-flat or better this season. Kristen Zillmer holds the fastest mile time this season, as she ran a 4:55.37 at the Indiana State Dual (Jan. 12). At the same meet, teammates Rachael Brewer (4:55.54) and Kelly McShea (5:01.19), also posted career-best times in the event.
