NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's and No. 25-ranked women's track & field teams head to Madison, Wis., to compete in the Wisconsin Elite Invitational at the camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (The Shell) this weekend.

The meet starts Friday at 1 p.m., with the men's pentathlon, followed by an exhibition discus event at 5 p.m. The Redbirds will toe the line against Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Northern Michigan, Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Saturday's events begin in the field at 11 a.m., with action on the track to follow at 11:30 a.m.

Senior thrower Brittany Smith looks to continue her early successes this season, as she will head to the ring for both the shot put and weight throw. The six-time All-American recently earn Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors, for her record-breaking performance in the weight throw at the Redbird Open (Dec. 8), throwing a career- and school-record mark of 70-07.00 (21.51m). Last week, she took down the No. 1 ranked thrower in the collegiate ranks, Felisha Johnson of Indiana State, in the weight throw, beating her by more than two feet.

On the track, the majority of the women's distance crew will get their first taste of the 3,000-meter distance, as junior Kristen Zillmer sets the pace for a trio of freshmen making their debut at the indoor distance (Krista DeCeault, Sammi Donovan and Kelly McShea). Coming off a 4:21.30 mile performance a week ago, freshman Tyler Morse will be the lone sole on the men's side to compete in the 3,000-meter run.



Sophomore Printassia Johnson looks improve her times in the sprints, as she will head to the starting blocks in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Six-time Valley Champion in the 400-meter dash, senior Sade Sealy will see herself in an unconventional race, as she will compete in the 600-meter dash. Coty Kramer will also look to improve upon his team-leading time of 50.52 in the 400-meter dash, as he is slated to race the event at Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
