NEW ORLEANS - After finishing 14th at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Illinois State women's track & field team enters the 2013 indoor season with a No. 25 preseason ranking, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday afternoon.

For the fourth-straight year, national team rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national-team race.

Helping the Redbird women to their No. 25 ranking were Sade Sealy and Brittany Smith, who ranked in the top-20 nationally in their respective events. Sealy ended the season in 2012 ranked 16th in the 400-meter dash, while Smith ranked second in the weight throw (21.51m/70-07.00) and sixth in the shot put (17.16m/56-03.75), respectively.

The only other Missouri Valley Conference team with a top-25 national ranking is Indiana State, sitting in the 18th position.

These two women, along with the other members of both the men's and women's teams, will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend to compete in the annual Indiana State Dual Meet. Fans can follow all the action via Twitter at @ISURedbirds and @ISU_Track_XC.
