Glover Takes Second in the Javelin at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore thrower Tim Glover finished the javelin throw in second place after recording a mark of 241-08 at the competitive Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on the Jim Duncan Track inside Drake Stadium Friday evening.
Competing in the women's field events, Amanda Albrecht grabbed a top-10 finish in the high jump, as she cleared the bar set at 5-08.75 for an eighth-place finish, as Rachelle Harbert leaped to a 13th-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 12-01.50. Leigh Petranoff finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 139-03. Tori Ziegler (46-03.25) was 19th in the shot put, while Brittany Smith (152-04) took 20th in the discus.
In the women's relays, the distance medley relay of Aisha Praught, Sade Sealy, Jil Kerkman and Samantha Bluske were sixth with a time of 11:37.32. Kerkman ran the 800-meter leg of the race in a personal-best time of 2:12. The 4X100-meter relay team of Shandel Ellis, Sealy, Meaka Brents and Alia McAfee ran to an 18th-place finish in a season-best time of 47.67 in the prelims, but did not qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Still in the relays, Jordan Frey, along with Albrect, Sealy and McAfee finished 21st in the 4X400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:47.98, but did not advanced to the finals. Kerkman, Kristen Zillmer, Jess Husted and Geena Loesch ran as a team in the 4X800-meter relay, placing eighth with a time of 9:02. 56.
On the men's side, Curt Jensen finished seventh in the shot put with a heave of 55-08.50.
Kirsten Lang and Praught will begin the final day of competition Saturday at 11:20 a.m., in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
