Walk Of Champions: A torch-guided tour of some of the historic landmarks on campus the night before fall classes start teaches new student-athletes about Illinois State's proud heritage, athletically and beyond. The culmination of the ceremony is when new Redbird student-athletes receive the first half of a medallion. They receive the other half on the night of their Senior Banquet. The inscription on the medallion, which also features the Redbird logo, is the phrase from the fight song "To This Emblem We'll Be True." Each medallion piece is placed in the Chalice of Champions and displayed prominently in the Owen Strength and Conditioning Center as a reminder to Redbird student-athletes as they progress through their careers.
The Reggies Sponsored by State Farm: The Reggies is an annual event that recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of Illinois State student-athletes. Student-athletes that have achieved a 3.0 or higher grade-point average during one of the previous two semesters are invited to participate in this prestigious affair. The highlight awards recognize the Doug Collins Male and Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Additional awards distributed at The Reggies:
This award is given to the student-athlete who has overcome academic challenges and has made it onto the honor roll for their first time.
The Impact Award goes to the student-athlete who has committed himself or herself to helping others through good deeds and volunteer work. The award winner is nominated by and voted on by their peers in the Student Athlete Advisory Council.
Good Neighbor Award
The Good Neighbor Award is given to the student-athlete who has been the most helpful to his teammates and fellow student-athletes. This award is nominated by and voted on by the Student Athlete Advisory Council.
AFNI Honor Roll: The AFNI Honor Roll is a distinction for student-athletes that have earned a 3.0 or greater GPA during the spring and/or fall semesters. This distinction earns an invitation to The Reggies. Honors are also given to teams that achieve the highest GPA over the course of a semester. In a ceremony held during half-time of a men's basketball game, all the AFNI Honor Roll student-athletes are brought down to center court to be recognized. Illinois State has consistently managed to place over half of its student-athlete population on the Honor Roll.
Senior Banquet: The Senior Banquet marks the culmination of a student-athletes' career at Illinois State. This event is held a few weeks prior to graduation and is open to family and friends of graduating seniors. Graduating seniors receive their senior plaque proudly displaying the full Redbird Medallion.
