Academic Awards
AFNI Honor Roll
The AFNI Honor is a distinction for student-athletes that have earned a 3.0 or greater GPA during the spring/fall semesters. Honors are also given to teams that achieve the highest GPA over the course of a semester. In a ceremony held during an the half-time of the first men's home basketball game. All the honor roll athletes and teams are brought down to center court to be announced. Illinois State University has consistently managed to place nearly half of it's student-athlete population on the honor roll. Our athletes continually excel in both athletic and academic pursuits.
Alumni Association Award
This is an honorary award presented to a current member of an ISU intercollegiate athletic team, who has completed a minimum of 1 year at Illinois State University. This student-athlete must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.5 gpa) and be eligible to compete as determined by the NCAA, the MVC and Gateway Football Conference. In addition to the academic and athletic requirements this student-athlete must be a good role model and possess strong leadership characteristics.
Bone Scholar
The designation of Bone Scholar is the highest academic distinction that can be achieved by undergraduate students at Illinois State University. A select number of students are designated annually as Bone Scholars, in honor of former Illinois State University President Robert G. Bone. Bone Scholars are students who combine superior academic records with full personal development through campus and community activities. Nominations to this honor are made by faculty members, and selection of new Bone Scholars is conducted by the Honors Program. The criteria for nomination includes a 3.7 cumulative GPA, four semesters at Illinois State University, evidence of leadership potential and involvement in campus and community activities.
Golden International Honor Society
Golden Key invites only the top 15% of undergraduate students to join (juniors and seniors in the U.S., and second-year and higher students in other countries). The Society emphasizes diversity and strengthens its relevance by recognizing students in all fields of study, regardless of part- or full-time status.
Laurie Mabry Award
The student should best exemplify the positive values and attitudes that can be learned through athletics, and be a person who appreciates the opportunity she has received through participation in the athletic program and shows such appreciation through her attitudes toward and efforts for the program and/or university.
Red Tassel
A national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.
State Farm Banquet
Each year the Illinois State Athletics Programs holds a banquet honoring its student-athletes that have achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA during the past semester. This banquet is held during the Fall semester and is attended by all Athletic Staff, Coaches, Athletes and Parents. The evening is filled with guest speakers, former alumni and students honoring the achievements of our honor role athletes.
Student Ambassador
A Student Ambassador is chosen student-athlete that has demonstrated loyalty to both the Illinois State Athletics and the University. The chosen student will attend Presidential events, Admissions area meetings, Fund raising receptions and Homecoming events as a representative of Illinois State student-athletes.
Capital One Academic
This program recognizes the achievements of outstanding student athletes on both the university and college division levels. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.
