Four-year letterwinner ... two years after graduation from Illinois State in 1975, Weibring joined the PGA tour ... returned to Illinois State for a clinic and exhibition for the Redbird Club to benefit the golf program after a victory in 1979 ... named the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 1991 ... won five PGA events during his professional golf career--the 1979 Quad Cities Classic, 1987 Western Open, 1991 Quad Cities Classic, 1995 Quad Cities Classic and the 1996 Greater Hartford Open ... has five wins on the Champions Tour, including the 2007 3M Championship, 2005 Bruno's Memorial Classic, the 2004 Allianz Championship and the 2003 SAS Championship ... won his first major on the Champions Tour on Oct. 12, 2008, after shooting a 9-under-par 271 at Baltimore Country Club East Course in the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship .... in 1994, the D.A. Weibring Endowed Scholarship was created and is given to the golf player that shows growing merit within ISU academics and athletics ... on July 27, 2007, the Illinois State University's Board of Trustees approved the naming of the University golf course as the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in recognition of D.A. Weibring's commitment and contribution to Redbird Athletics and his achievements as a PGA member.
