Student-athlete and coach at Illinois State ... football and track captain ... set many records in the 800 and mile runs ... Illinois State's only tennis coach for the first 40 years of the varsity program ... tennis teams had a 281-127 record with 12 conference championships ... won the first six championships after the Interstate Conference was formed in 1950 ... was the head wrestling coach for 30 years (1933-63) and his teams posted a 138-76-6 record, with six league titles ... organized wrestling at ISU in 1933 ... in 1955, became the director of the ISU cheerleader school ... in all, his squads won 18 conference championships and numerous individual and tournament honors ... pioneered Illinois State's intramural program ... a 1930 graduate of Illinois State, Hill began teaching at his alma mater the same year, serving as head tennis and cross country coach, assistant basketball and football coach, and director of intramurals ... founding member of the Bloomington-Normal Tennis Patrons Association ... inducted into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1979 ... died in 1971 shortly after retirement.
