Historically regarded as one of Illinois State's most outstanding all-around athletes, collecting 13 varsity letters ... lettered in five sports in one year -- football, basketball, baseball, tennis and track and field/cross country ... an ambidextrous forward who captained Illinois State's 1934 basketball team and was the top scorer on three championship squads ... won three-straight IIAC Championships in basketball ...struck out 19 batters in one baseball game in 1934 ... in his senior season, Goff won 12 games and averaged 12 strikeouts per start ... it is said that he threw the javelin in a track meet between innings of a home baseball game in which he was pitching ... all-conference halfback on the football team in his only season... played professional basketball and baseball for four years ... coached basketball at Illinois State for eight seasons until 1957 ... after retiring, returned to Normal as a teacher and counselor in the Athens, Ill., school district ... a member of the NAIA Baseball Hall of Fame ... died while wintering in Arizona in 1980.
