Four-year letterwinner ... three-time all-conference selection ... honorable mention all-American selection in 1939 ... helped the Redbirds to a 19-10-7 record over four seasons ... also lettered in track and wrestling (freshman season) ... competed in hurdles and shot put ... named first-team all-Illinois Intercollegiate Conference (track and field) in 1939 and 1940, winning second-team honors in 1938 ... following a stint in the Navy, he began a career in teaching and coaching.
