Coached at Illinois State from 1927-65, winning 11 basketball championships, 14 track championships and 28 cross country titles ... through coaching football, basketball, cross country, tennis and track, helped bring ISU 50 major championship and 45 second-place awards ... his basketball teams won six-straight IIAC championships from 1937-38 to 1943-44 ... nine times, his teams finished better than 10th in national competition ... was an associate professor of health and physical education at ISU until 1965 ... a member of the NAIA and Helms Halls of Fame, and also the Hall of Fame at Millikin, where he was a star high jumper and a center on the basketball team ... prior to coming to ISNU, coached at his alma mater, Findlay College (Ohio) at Winchester, Blue Mound and Assumption High School ... pioneered and famed the "T" zone defense ... passed away at the age of 81 in 1978.
