Dr. Jeri Beggs
Dr. Jeri Beggs, a member of the Illinois State University faculty since 2002, was appointed as the Redbird Athletics' Faculty Representative to the NCAA by ISU President Dr. Al Bowman July 27, 2009.
Beggs, an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing, replaced Dr. Debbie Lindberg, who held the position for three years.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Beggs said. "Working with the Athletics Department and student-athletes at Illinois State has been the most rewarding service for me. I hope I can continue to serve the University well in this new role."
Beggs has served on the Athletic Council at Illinois State since 2003 and has served as the council's chair since 2004, while serving on all four of the council's sub-committees. She also chaired a couple of task forces involving intercollegiate athletics.
"Dr. Beggs is an engaged faculty member who provides outstanding service to the University and our Athletics Department," Bowman said. "Our student-athletes will benefit from her leadership and experience."
Illinois State Director of Athletics Dr. Sheahon Zenger is pleased with the experience Beggs brings to the position.
"We are pleased that Jeri Beggs has agreed to serve at President Bowman's request as our next faculty representative," Zenger said. "Her years of service on the athletic council and her five years as the chair of that council have prepared her well to assist our coaches and staff on behalf of the faculty and students of Illinois State University."
Beggs earned her doctorate from Saint Louis University and her masters of business administration (MBA) and bachelors of arts degree from Southern Illinois University. She is a member of numerous professional and academic organizations, including the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Marketing Management Association (MMA) and the North American Case Research Association (NACRA). Beggs also serves as a board member with the MMA.
A 2007 recipient of the College of Business Manahan Family Teach Award for Teaching Excellence in Business, Beggs has actively researched business ethics and consumer behavior.
Before working at Illinois State, Beggs was a visiting professor at Indiana University for three years. Her husband, Brent, is an associate professor in Kinesiology and Recreation. The couple has two children, Brendan (14) and Sydney (9).
