Kids Day Set for Redbird Football Saturday
Oct. 22, 2008
NORMAL, Ill. - The children of Bloomington-Normal will be specially recognized Saturday, when the Illinois State Athletics Department sponsors "Kids Day" for the Redbirds' home football game against North Dakota State. Highlighting the event will be Nickelodeon star "Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius," who will be available to interact and take photos with Reggie's Kids Club members, and other children in the Fun Zone, prior to the 1:30 p.m. kick-off.
Professional face painter "The Zoo Lady" will also be a part of the festivities. Special concessions will include cotton candy and snow cones. Three playing inflatables will also be located in the Fun Zone, which opens at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
"Kids Day is always a great event for our younger fans and their families," said Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions Brad Ledford. "Last year we had Dora the Explorer in attendance, and on Saturday, we will be welcoming Jimmy Neutron. We hope to have a great turnout in the Fun Zone, and it should be another great Missouri Valley Football Conference game at Hancock Stadium."
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is a 2001 computer-animated film based on a few five-minute animated shorts shown on Nickelodeon in 2000-2001. The film was produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies with O Entertainment.
The show "Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius" was nominated for the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, making it the first film produced by Nickelodeon Movies ever to receive an Academy Award nomination.
Saturday's contest against North Dakota State will mark the second of three-consecutive home games for the Redbirds (2-4, 1-2 MVFC). The Bison (3-4, 1-3) dropped a 23-13 decision against host Northern Iowa Saturday.
