Hutchcraft Joins Athletic Communications Staff
May 5, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - Lauren Hutchcraft has been named an assistant director for athletic communications at Illinois State University, according to Todd Kober the associate athletics director for athletic communication. Hutchcraft will officially begin her position on May 16, filling the void left by Jimmy Knodel, who is pursuing a career outside of athletics.
Hutchcraft, who worked two years in the Illinois State office as an undergraduate, is just finishing up her graduate assistantship in the office of athletic communication. The Gibson City, Ill., native will serve as the primary contact for the Redbird women's basketball team, as well as supervising the student assistants working with both the ISU gymnastics and swimming and diving teams.
"This is bittersweet as we lose Jimmy, but I'm looking forward to continuing to work alongside Lauren as she officially begins her professional career," Kober said. "She has been a viable part of our office for the last four years and it has been a pleasure to personally witness her growth. With her passion for Illinois State and Redbird Athletics, she is a perfect choice to promote the dynamic stories and achievements of our student-athletes and our department."
Hutchcraft is also eager to begin in her new role.
"I am excited to begin the position within the ISU Athletic Communications Department," Hutchcraft said. "Illinois State Athletics has been a home for me now for four years, and I couldn't be more excited to begin my professional career here. Working alongside a successful program like women's basketball will be a great experience. I look forward to working with the women's basketball coaching staff and student-athletes, as they have shown they possess qualities of hard work and dedication."
In 2009, Hutchcraft earned her bachelor's degree from Illinois State in communication studies. Next week, she will receive her master's degree in sport management, also from ISU. Having served as the primary media contact for women's golf, gymnastics, softball, cross country and track and field, while serving as the secondary contact for Redbird football last season, Hutchcraft has a strong rapport with several Redbird head coaches.
Hutchcraft, along with former ISU graduate assistant Kevin McCarty, collaborated on the 2009-10 men's basketball game-day program which was voted the best in the nation in the annual publications contest conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
