NORMAL, Ill. - As announced earlier this spring season, the Illinois State baseball team will continue to help raising funds for cancer research by hosting Redbirds Vs. Cancer at Duffy Bass Field this Sunday, May 5, when the ‘Birds play Creighton at 1 p.m. A goal of $10,000 was set and the Redbirds recently reached its marker from its efforts and fan donations.

Last night during the ISU-Illinois Wesleyan game, the Redbirds Vs. Cancer donation goal of $10k was reached and surpassed, before the ‘Birds went on to earn its ninth-straight victory. This great accomplishment could not have been achieved without tireless promotion of the players and support of Redbird fans. This is something head coach Mark Kingston is completely aware of and congratulates all those who were involved.

“Our team is proud to announce we have passed our fundraising goal,” said Coach Kingston. “The players worked very hard to help this worthy cause, and should be proud that they are making a significant impact. With the team’s dedication and support from our fans who understand the importance of this cause, we’re glad to help the mission of the Vs. Cancer organization. ”

Even though the $10k goal has been met, the Illinois State baseball team will continue raising donations for Vs. Cancer through the end of the game Sunday, where the entire team will shave their heads in support of the cause. All fans who contribute to the fund will be entered into a drawing to win either two all-session passes to the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference tournament at Duffy Bass Field or a signed baseball by the entire Redbird baseball team.
