Redbird Gymnastics' Seniors Say Goodbye

NORMAL, Ill. - As the Illinois State gymnastics team hosts Big Ten Conference member Ohio State, this Sunday, March 3 at 4 p.m., the `Birds will say goodbye to five graduating seniors during the last home meet of the regular season.

Beginning at 3 p.m., Reggie's Fun Zone will be open for kids to enjoy ISU themed coloring sheets, Reggie tattoos and an inflatable bounce house. In addition, Reggie Redbird silly bands will also be handed out to everyone in the Fun Zone. As an added bonus, for every ISU gymnast who scores a 9.8 or higher, a T-shirt toss will take place for the fans in the stands.

Seniors to be recognized following the conclusion of the meet: Apollonia "Apples" Barrientos, Kim Genereux, Tori Sarantakis, Chelsie Seplowin and Marissa Stom.

The Redbirds are coming off of a win last weekend against Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State. The gymnasts scored a season-high team score of 195.000. Sophomore Sami King led the way, as she took home first place in the all-around competition with a 39.100. Following King was teammate Kim Genereux, who earned second place in the all-around competition with a 39.0.

"We are excited to host No. 20 Ohio State and look forward to competing against a team of their caliber," said head coach Bob Conkling. "The team has worked hard on building the success and momentum from our last two competitions along with staying focused on where we can improve."
