Jan. 18, 2009
NORMAL, Ill. - The St. Louis Cardinals Caravan made an appearance at Redbird Arena Sunday, Jan. 18, to sign autographs for Illinois State Athletics fans, as well as St. Louis Cardinals fans.
The Caravan, which featured current St. Louis Cardinals players Chris Perez, Josh Kinney, Brendan Ryan, Nick Stavinoha, along with Cardinals alumni John Tudor, Danny Cox, Tom Lawless, was on hand to sign autographs for Redbird basketball fans from 1-2 p.m. along the Redbird Arena concourse.
GoRedbirds.com and Redbird All-Access were there for the entire Caravan appearance, as both current and former St. Louis Cardinals met with members of the media just prior to the autograph session.
We have a link below to photos from both the media interview session and the autograph session.
We also recorded video interviews with current Cardinals player Nick Stavinhoa, along with Cardinal great and current St. Louis TV color commentator Al Hrabosky, who served as the emcee for the event.
Stavinhoa, a 26-year-old outfielder, saw action in 29 games last season for St. Louis, where he batted .193 (11-57) with one extra-base hit. He spent the majority of the 2008 season with St. Louis' Triple-A club, Memphis, where he hit .337 in 112 games with 74 RBI and 16 home runs.
Hrabosky was a 13-year major-leaguer who spent eight seasons with the Cardinals (1970-77). Nickmaed the "Mad Hungarian" due to his Hungarian descent and colorful character, Hrabosky led the National League in saves with 22 in 1975 and had a career 3.10 ERA. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
