Maintenance Operation

It is the goal of the maintenance operation to maintain a well-conditioned golf course consistent with the better courses in our community, state, and other universities. To accomplish this goal the superintendent and crew strive to meet the following maintenance specifications.

  • Mow putting greens 7 times per week to heights of 3/16 inches in the early spring and in exceptionally hot conditions and 5/32 inches during the prime golf season.
  • Mow tees 3 times per week with triplex units to a height of ½ inch throughout the golf season.
  • Mow fairways 3-4 times per week to a height of .50 inch all season.
  • Mow rough to height of 2 inches on a scheduled dependent upon the rate of growth.
  • Mow a 5 foot wide collar around each fairway/green at a height of 1.25 inches twice per week.
  • Change the hole and tee block locations daily in a set rotation.
  • Rake bunkers 3-4 times per week.
  • Aerify greens in early May and in early September
  • Aerify tees in early June and early August. Tees that experience compaction due to heavy traffic should be aerified more frequently.
  • Aerify fairways and roughs in mid-October.

Fertilizers and pesticides are periodically applied to this golf course. Please contact the pro shop at 309.438.8065 for more information.
